Yoga.
Yoga is a very complete practice that connects the body, mind and spirit, contributing in a unique way to health and well-being. On the surface, a yoga class includes a set of physical postures coordinated with the breath. However, this coordination of movement and breath has a profound impact on our body and on our mental and emotional states. There are several styles of yoga, which can produce different effects. As a yoga student, I practiced multiple styles including Iyengar, Vinyasa, Traditional Tantra and Anusara. My teaching focuses on correct body alignment in order to create a safe practice and avoid injuries. It also encourages the development of an intimate relationship with the body and with our psychological and emotional worlds. In 2020, after being diagnosed with cancer, I decided to study and pratice oncology yoga with the aim of optimising my own treatment and recovery. Since then, being able to help other cancer survivors regain their health and strength is one of my greatest sources of joy and fulfillment.
Therapeutic yoga
Therapeutic yoga is a type of yoga designed for cancer survivors which includes a sequence of physical postures (asanas) synchronized with breathing. The practice is carried out in a fluid, slow and conscious way to facilitate connection with the physical, emotional and spiritual bodies. The sequences are planned to respond to the main needs of cancer survivors: relearning to trust their body, increasing muscle mass, optimising bone density, reducing side effects associated with treatment and facilitating emotional well-being. The practice is guided using language that is meant to highlight our existence as part of nature, sooth our nervous system and develop trust in our body wisdom.
